Exhibition - Suzanne Valadon. A world to oneself

Exhibitions Arts Cultures-© Jacqueline Hyde - Centre Pompidou, MNAM-CCI /Dist. RMN-GP
Suzanne Valadon (1865-1938) bequeathed to the history of art a fascinating corpus, both transgressive and radical. His rebellious character, His extraordinary destiny, her life and art shared with her son Maurice Utrillo and her husband André Utter, did not stop nourishing the interpretation of his work. Each facet of the romantic epic of this artist taking with different cosmos draws an essential portrait of emerging modernity, sheds light on an era at the edge of two worlds, which takes the viewer from the 19th to the 20th century.

Almost fifty years after his last retrospective in France, The Center Pompidou-Metz pays tribute to him with an ambitious monograph designed as a story. Suzanne Valadon. A world with oneself thwarts the foundations of his mythology to offer a rereading of his work in all his complexity and thus re -situating it within a history of art which made little case of this daring artist refusing to be assigned to a movement. Third retrospective of Chiara Parisi at the head of the Center Pompidou-Metz, The exhibition will question the expressive and resolutely contemporary character of the work of Suzanne Valadon.
