My body, My archive

Shows-My body, my archive
"A family archive shattered by history whose fragments have scattered, Stories from which only the names of the men of the clan emerge. What have we made of our mothers, of our sisters, Where are our women? "Our movements, rhythms, Breaths and voice carry intangible and mysterious traces from where we come from. Also for the dancer Faustin Linkula, The injured Congo stories storytelling, His body is the only sensitive archive of the past of his country. For this new show, He travels twenty years of creation, attentive to what is not there: women, Absent from memoirs as stories from his clan. He summons them in the form of wood statues produced by Gbaba, Sculptor Lengola.

STATEMENT OF INTENT

By Faustin Linkula

My name is Kabako, I am Kabako. Again Kabako, Always Kabako. It's me Kabako, yes, I am a stories storytelling.

Spectacularly empty… Triptych without title… Radio Okapi… The Festival des lies… In the footsteps of Dinozord… To end Bérénice… the cargo… Hamida and the fogs… Congo… Drums and Digging… Statue of lossa… Banataba… More More More … Future ...

It has been more than 20 years that I walk my stories on the scenes of the world. Need to stop on this archive of personal creation today, need to question him. What ends of my body have I engaged in each of these pieces? Mostly, What traces remain of these pieces in my body and in my gestures today?

In 2017 with Banataba I discovered a forest village, Village of the Rives of the Congo River, land of my maternal ancestors. Since then I go back regularly, In search of a family archive shattered by history whose fragments have scattered between the island of Tabakili and Kisangani, Stories from which only the names of the men of the clan emerge. What have we made of our mothers, of our sisters, Where are our women?

So I will go in search of Gbaga, The most famous sculptor in Lengola land today, Nicknamed Prince, The prince of sculptors. Gbaga can talk to wood, Gbaga knows how to tear off forms from wood to instill the energy of the disappeared ancestors. He will sculpt women who disappeared from the maternal clan for me. And since the statues speak, I will summon them all on stage, I will listen to their conversations on the life before in the land Lengola and I will dance today's life, after the war, crisis, the war…
