Permanent exhibition lee ufan arles

Created by the Korean artist Lee Ufan, who has attached himself to Arles since an exhibition in 2013 in the Saint-Laurent-Le Capitole chapel, This exhibition center is both a museum presenting historical and recent work by the artist, But also a place of life and support for artistic and cultural activities.
Lee Ufan's works, painter, sculptor, Poet and philosopher born in 1936 in Korea, act as revealing. They draw attention to materials, on the vacuum or on the distance between two elements, On reflections and shadows: all that we had not necessarily seen at first glance, And which yet participates in the work of art.
At the crossroads of three cultures (those of Korea, of Japan where he studied and where he lives, and France where he also lives part of the year), Lee Ufan's work is universal. His sculptures, whom he calls relatum, are the result of "meetings": for example between a natural material (stones, linen, ...), An industrial material forged by humans (steel plates, glass ...) and a space. They lead us to meditate less on what the artist has done, than more broadly on the relationship between man and nature.
His paints, worked by series over several decades sometimes, are also the support for reflections on time, on the gesture, On the relationship between full and vacuum. Personal expression has been erased in a regularly renewed infinite quest.
