Discover the new exhibition of FRAC Normandie Caen, "Spook Rock Road (Kasino-Kut)" by Blair Thurman.

This is an opportunity for the artist to present pictorial installations of large formats, which serve as a framework for a set of new sculptures and recent paintings. The exhibition extends exceptionally in the courtyard of the Regional Contemporary Art Fund (FRAC) Normandy in Caen.


The allusion to the "casino" contained in the title of exposure is an indication of the Thurman method, which always spares a part at random in its compositions. His art is affiliated with the aesthetics of the object found, One of the foundations of modern art. But at home, These are also forms, Structures and patterns, that we find transposed in his works. These forms found include, for example, car circuits, The frame of a chair, Or a printed motif ... Its starting point can also be a play on words or homonymy, As in the analogy between chassis for paint and car chassis, Both being envisaged as supports for the painted surface.

His new three -dimensional works, Make from bone bone buggies surmounted by a parasol, Maked more specifically the junk sculpture (the creations of Ed Kienholz, or Robert Rauschenberg, notably), While large installations made of monochrome panels are a transposition of the art of "assembly?" in painting. The paintings are assembled there as in a cards castle, And define an environment that can be reminiscent of an automobile circuit. Their colors are inspired by the chromatic range of comic books from the 60s and 70s. Neon sculptures punctuate the route, strengthen its urban dimension.
