The Cantonal and University Library (BCU )'s mission is to contribute to the development of the intellectual life of the canton, to provide the essential tools for university education and scientific research and to ensure the conservation and development of information sources that contribute to cantonal memory.


Founded in 1848, The BCU consists of a central library and 19 decentralized libraries located at the university. It is open to all 78 hours per week and has more than two million printed documents, a million photos, an important heritage collection as well as CDs, DVDs and comics.
