Photo | Brut BXL is a project of exhibitions and multidisciplinary events coordinated by the Center of Art Brut and Contemporary La "S" Grand Atelier (Vielsalm) in collaboration with Bruno Décharme, Collector and founder of ABCD-Art Brut in Paris, And 4 partner organizations based in Brussels :? The Centrale for Contemporary Art, the botanical, Museum art and margins and Tinygallery.
In 2019, Arles photography meetings presented the photo exhibition | Brut Collection Bruno Decharme & Company, Resumption in 2021 by the American Folk Art Museum in New York. In 2022, Bruno Decharme and Anne-Françoise Rouche (the "?" Large workshop) wanted to show other facets of "raw photography" through the recent discoveries of works of a hundred artists.
Photo | Brut Bxl Collection Bruno Decharme includes exhibitions, installations, Workshops, performs, Two days of study as well as unpublished publications. The program revolves around the theme of the "raw photo". Through photographs, photomontages or photocollage, creators, generally self -taught, reveal their personal universes through works produced outside of conventional artistic circuits. This field little explored in research on Brut opens the way to innovative practices in the field of photography, thus contributing to renewing the gaze on this medium. This project thus questions the role of the collector as much, its power on the categorization of artists, than photography.
As part of photo | BRUT BXL, The power station presents nearly 200 photographs from the photo corpus | Brut Collection Bruno Decharme & Company exhibited in Arles. True to its programming axes, The Center for Contemporary Art in the City of Brussels has also invited Brussels artist Angel Vergara for an exchange with the collector. His work feeds on continuous research on the power of the image through performance, videos, facilities, Paintings and drawings. He tests the limits of art, of reality and its perception. His research on the way in which the contemporary image shapes the public and private spheres intertwined between the resonance with the "raw" photographs. Each Vergara work is an attempt to break the image and have an aesthetic impact, but also socio -cultural, even political. For this project, He was inspired by filmed portraits that Bruno Decharme, also director, has dedicated to creators from his collection.
