Myxomycetes, do you know? They are everywhere, move, feed, transform with a discretion that is matched only by the formidable challenge they launch to science. Nor animal! Nor vegetable! Nor mushroom! They have not finished surprising us ...
Of millimeter dimensions, the fruits of these organisms form wonderful small landscapes that only an observation in stereomicroscope fully reveals. When he got down to the enhancement of the collection of exsiccata of Myxomycetes made up of the Neuchâtel Mycologist Janna Oppel and preserved at the University of Neuchâtel, the microbiologist Bernard Jenni opted for macrophotographies allowing a relief vision Specimens, an unprecedented choice for such documentation. This work, published in the Bulletin of the Neuchâtel Society of Natural Sciences in 2021, is also accessible, with interactive galleries, on the microbiolvideos.ch. site
Convinced of the artistic quality of these images, Didier Chatellard, president of the stereoscopic club of the Neuchâtel mountains (csmn.ch) and teacher at the Lycée Blaise-etrars, undertook the realization of this extraordinary exhibition, where are presented, in XXL format, Anaglyphs photographs of exsiccata.
Several videos and texts explain the biology of these organizations and the photographic methods implemented. In addition, there are the superb shots of "fresh" myxomycetes of the myxomycetologist Anne-Marie Rantet-Poux, whose excellent book Les Blobs-Trotteurs.
