A feeling of life

Shows-Un sentiment de vie
Falk Richter's my Secret Garden play gave birth in Claudine Galea the words to say the love and mourning of her father is a strange and unclassifiable text. It is written for the theater but it does not correspond to what is called a play. He escapes it, resolutely. Deprived of character, dialogue, and situation. Another text of incredible freedom, staff, written in the first person. Because Galea seeks to express what lives and speaks deep inside, in an atypical and yet scenic form.

It is a dramaturgical monstrosity that calls for a speech theater. It is a word that first refers to Falk Richter - the terrible child of the German theater - child entangled in an intimate knot, with dad mom and the pains of history. Return to what is hidden, at the bottom of a garden, the Garden of Self. My Secret Garden. And come back. Return.

Galea mixes its garden with that of Richter. Literary body-to-body. She addresses him because she returns from afar, like him. Writers, in general, come back from afar. This distant secret Garden is the intimate - the thicknesses and the depths experienced, buried, accumulated in time. In these thicknesses hide sediment experiences of the world, family, society and history. And in these experiences, there is sometimes chaos. So we come back from afar.

She writes what we are experiencing: emotional intensities, impulses, wounds, puzzles, disasters, sensations, traumas. She writes what shakes and writing must shake in turn. We are made of feelings. "No text without a feeling of life," she writes rightly. This is the challenge of literature and theater.

Here, the stake of the text is the father. His. The one she loved so much. And accompanied in death. A story of love and death. Mourning. Because the love of the father and the girl: an absolute, indestructible singularity. Crossing a feeling of life.

The language is electric, intense, unbridled and fragmented, it does not tell a story, but expresses the affects of a personal and family history, tangled to the concepts of politics (communism, colonialism, nationalism, the difference of the sexes ) and in the footsteps of history (the Algerian war is the ghost of this word).

It’s a language affair. Because what lives and speaks at the bottom of the secret Garden hides a language to find, unpredictable and unique. Writing (on) the feeling of life is always to get the suffocations of your emergence. And the theater must be able to welcome and reveal the impuders eruption of this language.
