Curious fate as that of the short news of Merimée entitled Le Carrosse du Saint-Sacrement: his few pages will have inspired a great film to Jean Renoir, and to Jacques Offenbach one of his most catchy scores. The scene is in Lima, in the last years of the Spanish colonial regime.
