Quartet from Kyiv, Dakhabrakha ("Give / take", in former Ukrainian) defines his style as an "ethnic chaos".
Nothing bellicose, rest assured.
Rather a hybrid cabaret that mixes popular ageless "age-free" picked in the country of the country "with hip-hop and electro influences or frantic rhythms borrowed from the East, Africa, India, and Balkans .
Thus juggling between legacy of the past and modernity, Dakhabrakha's music is transnational to touch the universal.
While the news has seriously darkened in Ukraine, this world music arises as an act of resistance to imperialism in general and cultural crushing in particular.
During the quartet concerts, this spirit of rebellion and freedom is celebrated in an energy sharing with the public.
Give, take.
Dressed in long dresses and fur toques, the four musicians play more than a dozen instruments.
Between rageing bows, celestial polyphonic songs, sweet lurking and tribal climbs clocked by Darbouka or Tabla, Dakhabrakha gives birth to a trance of staggering beauty.
Very long after their performance, we still wonder what could have put us in such a state ...
A suspended moment, linen of the madness of the world.
