Stéphane Zaech. Nefertiti

Exhibitions Arts Cultures-Stéphane Zaech. Nefertiti
This exhibition traces the last ten years of the work of Vaudois artist Stéphane Zaech with more than 120 paintings (portraits, still lifes, landscapes, etc.). Opening Saturday June 18, 2022 at 5 p.m. Stéphane Zaech painted people, their clothes, landscapes, flowers, bizarre trees whose branches are broken so as not to have to get out of the frame of the painting. People are too bizarre. Their anatomy has taken liberties that nature hardly allows. What happened ? Who are these ladies with statues postures but to the faces of Picasso? What do they do with these hard-sided arms and all these eyes? Is it a joke? Certainly not. On the contrary, it is a trap, because that is not the subject of the work.

The exhibition retraces the last ten years of painting by Stéphane Zaech. Since 1986, his work, nourished by art history and literary allusions has unfolded towards ever more freedom. He paints the color, the joy of the brush that scratches the canvas, the joy of the cloud which scratches the sky. He paints the world of today with the techniques of the masters of an-cians. Without great speeches on art, Zaech is played out for the referrals and plays out of sprains to reality to simply show painting itself, both as work and as a game. The game consists in watching differently, to Cher-Cher elsewhere than in the evidence. Thus, for example, Nefertiti would refer less to an Egyptian queen than to a piece of jazz in which the Miles Davis reverse the roles of the rhythmic and melodic sections. In Zaech's work, it is perhaps the roles attributed to the subjects represented and the medium painting are reversed.

Stéphane Zaech was born in 1966 in Vevey. He lives and works in Montreux.
