Candide is a virgin being who discovers the world. An ultra-sensitive character, sometimes rebellious. A young man struggling with the violence of society, and who, faced with disillusionment, never yields to despair or cynicism. History is an uninterrupted chain of more abominable horrors than the others. In this general darkness, three scenes of voluptuousness emerge from a decor in voluntarily caricatured acid colors, as so many visions of happiness according to Candide. Seven actors are transformed (fanciful costumes, transformations) to interpret a gallery of characters and roles of passage. The scenic device is modulated over the trips. The short scenes are linked to the rhythm of a crazy jubilant race. The dialogues and tirades written by Voltaire are preserved. We find his biting humor, his brilliance for irony and for the absurd, his impertinence, his intellectual requirement. This Candide is a hilarious comedy.

The opinion of the artistic director
Return to the basics for Julien Duval, Former student of the Erac who now leads a remarkable director career. This adaptation offers offbeat and entertaining lighting on this text, the comic potential of which is no longer to be proven. A renewed look and… quite pink!
