Glass shard. The mastery of enamel

Exhibitions Arts Cultures-Éclat de verre. La maîtrise de l'émail
The new temporary exhibition at the International Museum of Horlogerie

Whether it is compartmentalized, champlevé, painted, opaque, transparent or opales, enamel has fascinated for centuries. Under the apparent simplicity of its composition - glass and metallic oxides - hides the whole address of enameler and enamelters who must master their preparation, application and baked cooking. Even today, the decoration of a watch with enamel is similar to alchemy and retains its shares of secrets.

On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Applied Arts School of La Chaux-de-Fonds and in this international year of the glass proclaimed by the United Nations, the glass shine presents the ancestral techniques of the enamel applied to the decoration watchmaking. In the direct continuity of transmissions. The immaterial photographed devoted to mechanical know-how, the exhibition highlights the art of enamel in its highest attire thanks to the loan of many prestigious Swiss and international institutions, while emphasizing the past and current issues of the Training of enamelters and enamelers through the school's industrial arts collection.

Glass radiance confronts the masterpieces made by the craftsmanship of their sponsors, the simplicity of the material to the great complexity of its mastery, and the current attraction of clocks enamelled in the absence of a sector well -established learning.
