Dubout exhibition draws the French

Exhibition "Dubout draws the French"

Discover at the heart of La Redoute de Ballestras the new exhibition of the famous extraordinary designer, who has marked several generations by his humorous drawings: his crowds, her cats, his "big good-time and his little guy"
/>
From 1924 to 1973, Albert Dubout will draw for nearly 250 newspapers and magazines, which is, to date, unique in the world. Before the war, Dubout will denounce the political violence of flicked France between the two extremes, in particular by drawings on very heckled political meetings, and even, by a drawing "a popular deputy", the latter walking protected by a squadron of Gendarmes with the support of armored vehicles or "fear at the Bourbon Palace" after the riots of February 6, 1934. On the other hand, Jean d'Ormesson said "Dubout is the designer of paid holidays". The "spring" board will be presented which is the most symbolic and known drawing of this social movement (Parisians leaving the capital and discovering the joys of the countryside). The artist will draw the popular masses, in particular by his boards bringing together several hundred characters, with a lot of humor and complacency. Conversely, the bourgeoisie including intellectuals will often be caricatured. After the war, Jean d'Ormesson said "Dubout is the designer of the mass society and the consumer society". Drawings will be presented on traffic jams (new scourge of the Thirty Glorious Years), summer overcrowding and even the singular relationship of the French and their televisions. At the same time, Dubout will denounce excessive and fate bureaucracy, the forms of paper version before the era of computer science. Finally, following recent acquisitions, around twenty drawings will be presented for the first time on display, including the “April Fish” board drawing the French (walkers and fishermen) which is a mixture of ink in China, Lavis and of collages, unique in the history of drawing.
